Spaying and Neutering
Your pet can be spayed or neutered as early as four months of age. Studies have indicated that spaying or neutering your pet between four and eight months of age is advantageous to the animal’s long term health. There is no evidence that animals benefit from having a heat cycle or litter before being spayed.
Spaying or neutering your pet has numerous benefits for you as well as your pet:
- Eliminates unwanted heat cycles and associated discharge and odor
- If done prior to the first heat cycle, spaying can reduce risk of mammary cancer and can prevent uterine infections, ovarian cancer, and uterine cancer
- Helps to control the pet population
- Reduces the desire to roam to find mates
Hospital stays and recovery times are very short:
- Castrated pets are able to go home the same afternoon as the operation.
- Spayed pets are able to go home the day following the operation.
- Spayed and neutered pets only need about ten days for the incision to heal completely.
